Erin Brockovich

In late April 2014, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), issued a warning to women and medical service providers that has come too late for thousands of women and their families. The FDA’s warning was a public message to discourage the continued use of what is referred to as “morcellation” for the removal of uterus or uterine fibroids following many cases of cancer spread due to this surgical intervention.

Erin Brockovich became aware of this issue through a long-time friend who has consequently suffered.

“The problem with the procedure is that it can spread cancer cells. For me, I would rule out cancer first and then decide what course of treatment is necessary, but that’s me, however any decision would be difficult to reach without all the information. We have heard stories from women that are simply terrifying and heartbreaking. After further discussion, my friend spoke in depth with her doctor who provided her much needed information and comfort. She will be sharing her story and what she has learned on this site as well. It is frightening to my friend and me and frankly all of us as women to see and hear that we are often times NOT always informed about what is really going on and happening to others with similar problems.”

If you or a family member have been impacted by morcellation, please share your story at the Morcellation website.
